Since the opening of Heaven Restaurant in 2008, we have welcomed Rwandan artists and artisans to display and sell their work around our property.

We now have the Heaven Arts Gallery onsite, which supports artists from all over Rwanda. We love telling the stories behind the artisans and entrepreneurs in Rwanda, and we are amazed by the talent and creativity we see throughout the country!

We specifically look for the highest quality, Made in Rwanda products and try to find cooperatives supporting communities in different ways. Some of the artisans were former street children, others have disabilities, some support vocational training, and all of the artisans we work with are creating unique products for our clients and visitors — from jewelry made out of recycled materials, to contemporary paintings to intricate handmade baskets.

We are excited to be opening a new Retail Boutique at The Retreat which will continue to display and highlight products made by Rwandan artisans, fashion designers and entrepreneurs.

Our Heaven t-shirts are made from organic cotton by Wildlife Works, an innovative Kenyan project that supports conservation + employment.

Our book, “A Thousand Hills to Heaven” was written by co-owner, Josh Ruxin, and tells the whole of Heaven’s story.
We are also home to AZIZI Life’s Fair Trade crafts boutique and the Niyo Art gallery.

"Exiting COVID in the USA and arriving at the RETREAT was the perfect beginning to our Rwanda adventure. The entire staff was welcoming and made the first day of quarantine a blissful experience. The story of the owner's journey to settle in Rwanda is inspiring. They have the book on sale at the hotel - or download on Kindle. The book really puts the hotel and the country in a context that we found very useful. They are doubling the number of rooms on the adjacent property. It's supposed to be done by this summer.
